First Come First Read

NWTW is offering a play reading workshop on the University of Portland campus.  Bring in 8-10 pages for actors and professional directors to play with. Hear your work read aloud, receive thoughtful comments and questions, and move your next great idea closer to the stage.

When: Monday, Dec4 (2017) 7:30-10pm

Where: Franz Hall, Room 006, University of Portland, 5000 N. Willamette Blvd, Portland, OR 97203

Who: Director Tamara Carroll

and our University of Portland acting ensemble lead by Michelle Seaton.

What:

  • Bring up to 10 pages, with copies for actors and director.
  • Sign up at door. First come, first served.
  • Pages distributed and reviewed by cast and director.
  • Playwright and director see actors walk through pages.
  • Director may have actors re-run or work through part of a scene, or lead a discussion about the work with the actors.
  • Director invites other playwrights in attendance to give feedback to playwright (as actors skim through the next scene they will perform).
  • Each playwright gets at least 15 minutes of focused time.

Past Workshops:

Conversations for New Directors: Adriana Baer and Sam Hull addresses the questions many new directors have about getting started.

New Works Workshop:  Click here to see videos, feedback, and testimonials from the playwrights that attended this workshop.

We Develop new work through private and group sessions with directors and other professionals to assess and fine-tune its potential, followed by audience tests to see if it achieves intent.
